Heatrae Sadia History

  • 1920 Electric Fires established as a producer of electric heating appliances at King Street, Norwich
  • 1926 Company moved to larger premises on St. Georges Street
  • 1934 Electric Fires changed its name to Heatrae and was listed on the stock market
  • 1960 Duncan Low, manufacturer of electric and steam liquid heating equipment, acquired
  • 1961 Heatrod, set up by Heatrae, to produce heating elements
  • 1962 Heatrae acquired Electroway Heaters and became a subsidiary of Central Mining Investment Co. (CMIC)
  • 1965 CMIC merged with British South African Co. to become Charter Consolidated
  • 1970 Heatrae moved to current site at Norwich Airport Industrial Estate
  • 1974 Sadia Water Heaters acquired
  • 1977 Name changed to Heatrae Sadia. Sadia production moved to Norwich
  • 1985 The Valor Group bought Heatrae Sadia, along with Gainsborough Electrical - shower manufacturers.  Gainsborough production moved to Norwich
  • 1988 Elsy and Gibbons, manufacturers of water heating tanks, acquired
  • 1989 Pullin, manufacturers of immersion heaters, acquired
  • 1991 Yale & Valor (previously The Valor Group) acquired by Williams Holdings 
  • 1993 Megaflo acquired
  • 1997 Newmond bought the building products division of Williams Holdings
  • 1998 Newmond acquired RSA Water Heating from IMI plc
  • 1999 Santon production moved to Norwich
  • 2001 Newmond / Baxi merger
  • 2001 Powermax production moved to Norwich
  • 2004 Amptec Electric Boiler acquired
  • 2006 Sale of Heatrod
  • 2009 Baxi / DDR merger to form BDR Thermea
