Heatrae Sadia has a full portfolio of ErP compliant products available throughout our supply chain.
What is ErP?
ErP stands for Energy-related Products. ErP is a European Union (EU) directive to improve energy efficiency and performance standards of products.
Why is ErP important?
The Energy related Product (ErP) directive will eventually affect all products that have an environmental impact during their life. ErP comprises two directives, Ecodesign and Energy Labelling, that will help the EU achieve its 20-20-20 target to reduce energy use by 20 per cent and increase the share of renewable energies by 20 per cent by 2020. The space heating and hot water phase came in to force in all 30 member states of the European Economic Area at the same time on 26 September 2015.
Ecodesign sets the minimum energy performance and environmental criteria for energy related products. Products must comply with these criteria in order to bear a CE mark and be available for sale.
Energy Labelling will provide information for consumers about the environmental impact of the product. Tyres, fridges, freezers and washing machines, for example, are already covered by the ErP directive. Consumers are familiar with the energy label and take the energy rating into account when choosing which product to buy.
How Ecodesign and Energy Labelling will affect Heatrae Sadia products
The Ecodesign directive has had a major impact on some European countries, as some of the currently available storage water heating products are essentially banned, although any products already in the supply chain as of 26th September 2015 can continue to be sold after the deadline.
Ecodesign includes all domestic and commercial hot water products up to 2,000 litres in capacity. For indirectly heated storage cylinders, such as those heated by a separate gas boiler, Ecodesign compliance is purely based on heat loss. For directly heated storage cylinders, such as those heated solely by immersion heaters, it is based on the efficiency in delivering against a defined usage pattern and the actual amount of mixed hot water dispensed at 40°C. At Heatrae Sadia we have carefully planned and tested our products for the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives.
