Simon takes on the challenge again

06 March 2009

Heatrae Sadia's southern divisional sales manager Simon Russell will again be running the London Marathon to raise money for leukaemia charity the Anthony Nolan Trust but aims to beat the £2,000 donated last year.

The 26.2 mile annual run takes place this year on 26 April and Simon is training hard to beat his personal best of four hours 30 minutes.  This is his third fund raising marathon for the Leukemia charity that is very close to his heart.

Fifteen years ago Simon's friend's seven-year-old son was diagnosed with leukaemia and the Anthony Nolan Trust, which tackles the disease and other blood disorders, helped him to find a tissue match.  Since then, Simon has been on the bone marrow register himself and is keen to promote the charity while raising as much money as possible.

Simon's avid fundraising meant that he reached last year's target of £2,000 but this year hopes to beat it.  He comments: "Meeting last year's target was amazing and the kindness and generosity of people is overwhelming.  I'd love to be able to offer even more money to the charity this year but understand that in hard financial times this may not be possible.  The training is hard but it's worth every minute when you see how the money helps transform children's lives.”

Simon has worked for Heatrae Sadia for 13 years and is a member of the sales team.  To help him reach his £2,000 target, the company has pledged to sponsor him £500 to run the 26.2 mile marathon.
