This course includes a Home Study Pack containing a course book and workbook. Candidates are expected to spend time studying the course book and completing the workbook. The workbook is to be brought to the course, which will consist of a review of the workbook, followed by a training session dealing with further aspects of domestic unvented hot water.

Aims of the course
On completion of the course delegates will undertake an assessment that is marked on the day. Successful candidates will receive a certificate in due course. On receipt of their certificates, candidates will be qualified to install; commission and service unvented hot water systems.

This course is designed to give an entry level qualification and can be used as evidence of training for installers applying for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. The course covers the most common solar hot water systems installed in the UK.

Aims of Course
On completion of the course delegates should have knowledge of:

  • Fully filled sealed systems
  • Drain back systems
  • Flat plate collector systems
  • Evacuated tube collector systems
  • Direct flow evacuated tube collector systems
  • Successful candidates will receive certification

The course is not intended to cover roof work in detail but does cover affixing solar panels to roof structure, associated legislation, risk assessments and working at height requirements.

Who should attend?
Experienced domestic heating installers or plumbers who wish to extend their scope of work into domestic solar water heating.

Suggested prior knowledge or understanding
The candidates will be required to hold a G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems certificate, Water Regulations, Energy Efficiency (Part L) certificate and an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent plumbing qualification.

  • Practical wiring application for a 2 port valve (S plan) system
